Minutes - April 20, 2010

Hi everyone:

Thank you for attending Ellen's Investment club on April 20, 2010.

During this meeting we had an open forum discussion on retail sector stocks. Some of the stocks that were discussed included Dollarama (TSE:DOL), Canadian Tire (TSE:CTC.A), Coach (NYSE:COH), Ebay (NASDAQ:EBAY), Shoppers Drug Mart (TSE:SC), Indigo Books & Music (TSE:IDG), Empire (TSE:EMP.A), Liquor Stores Income Fund (TSE:LIQ.UN).

The Investopedia Challenge has come to an end. I'd like to congratulate the winner of the US market: Mary, and Canadian market: Luke. The winners each receive a $30.00 gift card from Chapters. The next challenge will begin on May 18, 2010. I encourage everyone to participate. You will find instruction on creating an account on our Blog site. For a quick glance please visit the below:

We focused the final hour on option trading. While it is an excellent investment vehicle to hedge your gains and losses, you should understand its risks especially the diminishing value of the contract due to time. Certainly as members begin to trade option through our Investment Challenge, we will have more interesting discussions in the future.

Just a reminder that we will be hosting a Guest Speaker session in the coming weeks that will be separate from our monthly meeting. Please stay tuned.

I encourage members to check out our Blog site as up-to-date information on monthly agendas, investing tidbits, stock research reports, and presentations can be found there:

I would like to welcome Bob, John, Eileen, Shirley and Marsha as our new members. The next session will be held on May 18, 2010 at 7:30pm in the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (750 Spadina Ave). We will be sending out the room number in the coming weeks.

Please email me or Gord Kozak (gkozak@sympatico.ca) if you have any ideas and suggestions.
